Eat An Ounce Of This Each Day, Live 20% Longer!
Is boosting your lifespan as easy as eating a handful of these a day? According to a Harvard Medical School study, yes! And this is no wimpy, small scale study either. It looked at 75,000 women and 40,000 men over a 30 year period.
The participants completed food surveys every few years over several decades. And while many of the foods they ate showed positive benefits, one stood out to the researchers.
That food? Nuts.
“What we find is that regular nut consumers have about a 20% reduction in all-cause mortality” over the course of the study, said Charles S. Fuchs, professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and author of the study. The regular nut-eaters were also thinner than those who didn’t eat nuts.
“The most obvious benefit was a reduction of 29 percent in deaths from heart disease — the major killer of people in America,” Fuchs went on to say.
All nuts showed benefits from almonds, walnuts, pecans, macadamia, pistachio, Brazil, and even peanuts, which are technically a legume.
Many earlier studies found an association between higher nut consumption and a lower risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, colon cancer, gallstones, and diverticulitis. Regular nut consumption also shows reduced cholesterol, inflammation, oxidative stress and insulin resistance.
Bottom line: EAT AN OUNCE OF NUTS EACH DAY FOR A LONGER, HEALTHIER LIFE!
